My hilariously failed DIY hair flower

I long to be crafty.

I don't buy Martha or other crafty mags and I don't read crafty blogs because I know I'll just get annoyed at the fact I'm not crafty. Maybe I should eliminate the word "can't" from my vocabulary, but that's just how I feel. All through elementary, middle, and high school I relied on my oh-so-crafty mother to...ahem...help me with projects. In case you're wondering, that means she totally did them for me. Anyway, I figured that maybe the wedding would jump start my inner Martha.

A few weeks ago I bought a $3 white hair flower at Wet Seal (yeah...I'm 23 and still shop there. Totally acceptable.) I thought I could remove some petals and glue or sew on some pearls/rhinestones. Easy peasy, right? Well, I found a beaded bracelet that I never wear anymore. It looked like it might work. So yesterday I tried it out.

Here is the flower:

Here is the bracelet:

I cut out/ripped out the middle section:
I cut a few strands of beads from the bracelet and sorted the pearls, crystals, and rhinestones. I decided to just use the pearls. Sewing is not something I really do, so I was kind of lost. As I awkwardly tried to sew these pearls, I thought maybe I could glue them. So I glued a few. The result was...not pretty.

My cat Joey was not too impressed, either. It sort of looks ok in the photo, but in person it's all sorts of messed up. I had planned on adding some feathers and/or netting, but I don't think I'll do that anymore. It's probably best to leave this one to the professionals. I might attempt another with a rhinestone earring or small brooch, though. There are tons of antique stores with plenty of inexpensive jewelry around my town, so it's not like I'd be losing a bunch of money.

I also attempted a DIY bouquet which I'll write about in an upcoming post. At least I still have a year to go. If nothing else, I have a crafty momma ;)

Wowza it's been a while!

So I totally fell off the blogging wagon for a whole MONTH! I kept reading blogs, but I stopped paying attention to my own. For this, I apologize. But, I have 2 very cute, cuddly, and fluffy reasons:

We adopted!! Their names are Tyler (on the left) and Joey. I. Love. Them. We'd talked about getting a cat but always thought that we didn't want the expense that came with it. Well, Josh decided that since he's buying a computer in a few months, I should have the option of getting something too. We started our search at the beginning of March and finally got them a week ago!

I know this is not wedding related, but sometimes real life gets in the way of the wedding. In this case, it was a much needed break from constant wedding planning. As of today, however, we're 13 months and 2 days away from the Big Day. Time to get a few more things checked off the list. Back to wedding-related posts ASAP!!
